  1. L. Hagenbach says:

This device is depicted as a triathlete and watch the first test of swimming GPS clock. If you watch the video of Garmin or visit any of the ads, Garmin leads him to believe that this watch will collect reliable data for all sporting events 3. And ‘reasonable to assume that someone can use this clock in a race and collect GPS data in water, because, of course, swimming is the first event in a triathlon.

thinking of buying this account clock: />
“The device does not collect data that can be used in water, a point (now different than any $ clock to test 20 water can accumulate in a smaller form factor). No data in heart rate and total data unusable and inaccurate GPS, while in water. />
“There are scene modes for running, biking, and “other” in “other” shows a person on skis (explain that?). Intentionally omitted a category for swimming, despite the publicity that this watch is for triathletes (see the photos you’ve added photos of the product).

“You have to buy a Quick release kit separately if you want to use this watch on a bike. It is not possible to obtain accurate data on a bicycle if the wrist. It stops car, then wake for most of the time I’m driving, if I wear on my wrist – although I must pause automatically when it is completely stopped. The quick release kit is not the most common for 205 and 305 Garmin 010-10889-00 Forerunner 305 / 205 Quick Release Kit, so you do not buy one. They made a new look and most sites have not yet in stock. From the time of writing this review, is not currently available on Amazon. com. look at the Garmin website and look under the accessories tab for this watch. You will see a different model number. I have confirmed with customer service. The part number for the kit is suitable for quick release: 010-11215-00. Google.

“Look for every foot or in the ability to track distance and is supposed to get for spending $ 400 on this device, you’re wrong. You must buy a separate foot pod, which costs $ 80-100, depending on where you buy (which includes the first kits to see Garmin Forerunner foot pods). Garmin Foot Pod SDM4 (ANT +)

“The clock is big and sits on top of the wrist (provided 20 hours of battery life to watch this), so wear under the changes will allow water into the outline, or you must use the top (or crowded in front of) the suit, which does not remove the suit without first removing the clock (which adds to its transition time and a kind of denial of that complex, “Triathlete” angle). You can see a picture of this watch on my wrist in the photo section of the product.
/> “There is no way to turn off the GPS tracking of only 3 in the form Multisport. Therefore, one must always be the correct methods of recording GPS data of swimming (or even ‘other’, as there is no “how to swim, as mentioned above). I called customer service and confirm this. His solution is to turn off the GPS while I’m swimming, and then restart manually start a new timer mode during the transition and 1 for my bike event. I leave you to judge how to take that advice. />
So, in conclusion, if you want to make this watch for a bike and run, and want to be able to watch in water before hand (and will not start unless you want some incorrect data included remote), you must buy: />
    $ 400 – Garmin 310XT
HR $ 25 – mounting kit with quick release (by the wrist and the bike) ( Amazon no link yet)
pedometer $ 80-100 – (if you want cadence)
Garmin Foot Pod SDM4 (ANT +)
$ 35-50 – Speed Sensor and cadence (if you want the pace of the bike)
Cadence Sensor GARMIN 010-10644-00 Speed />
You’ll be on it for $ 575 retail. Garmin, which we have done wrong in this case. Some of us are willing to spend this sum of money for a product if it is to do what is advertised to do. We are not asking to do more than work as advertised. I notice the small print keeps you from lawsuits, but not for repeat customers. Are sent back to Polar.

My first thought was that it was expensive. But, looking at the Forerunner 305 and 405, I realized that was not much more expensive for the additional features and represents the “new”. Then I looked at the price here at Amazon, almost fainted. $ 550? Without the HRM strap? Ouch. If you’re really into this watch, do not buy at that price. Search price of $ 399. Most sites sell at that price.

Okay, in feature set. large buttons and clear. big screen. Ability to track multiple sports. Rapid data entry. Many customizable options and screens.

    Pro:

Easy to configure and use. Connecting with USB ANT stick is simple and fast it can proceed without the manual.
online tools are pretty good (much better than previous iterations). It also works with the list of sites MapMy (fitness, running, walking, walking, cycling, swimming, tri).
custom display allows up to 4 items per page. So, you can monitor the rhythm, human resources, time and distance on a screen, then go to another and get a map of HR, calories burned and a lot of other options, all determined by you.
You can create paths in the clock and when you run it, that record every time you’re on that path. Ideal for comparison against the previous training courses for the rapid creation of the trail and having to monitor properly. Once on the road signs.
Auto-sport allows you to configure this and when you click around, turned to the next “sport” if a transition or other sports like cycling / running.
themes of the person after you enter your height, weight, fitness level. Provides burn calories and other related data, based on input.
virtual training partner. You can actually show how it is done in a route saved in comparison with his virtual training partner. This couple is an older version of you doing the same street and tells his pace and how far we are up and back. Pretty cool.
A lot of things you can configure and display / calibration / setup.

    Cons:

swim Like I said in the Garmin website before, this watch is announced as a triathlete training tool indispensable. Umm. . 3 Sports triathlete media, which often involves swimming, cycling and running. Swimming is not an option. In fact, when I clicked on another time, was what appeared to be an icon of a downhill skier. I’m not sure how it was presented as that possibility is not there. big mistake in my book for a watch that will be charged for triathletes.

Precision elevator? This is waaaaay off. In a 3. Run 3 miles, I was 853 meters. Unless I’m climbing the Washington Monument, I’m not doing this type of elevation in 3. 3 miles. Should say is off by 600 feet or so. On a bike ride 60 miles, I was at 1500 feet and at least one took me some hills legitimate. />
Switching Events: There is no way to change the events In the middle of the clock if not set properly to begin. Let’s say you made a day and bike the next day. If you left chasing changed when he realized the error, delete data and start a new workout. The initial training is maintained, but can not add the “new” in every workout in the middle of the night or any of its software (SW is installed and the online site). So when fall practice, is a sports center recording software installed and everything set to the wrong website. You then have 2 training sessions can not be consolidated or generate reports against, without manual intervention.

Swim accuracy leaves something ‘to be desired. Although I have not tested and is expected to change the review in the future, a 1 / 2 mile bathroom, this was far away. Beach, in the opposite direction, the gaps. All were part of the result of swimming.

While there are a lot of pros (which guarantees a 4 star), the disadvantages are very negative. Since I did not watch to keep track of everything he has to do. At this rate, I am very disappointed with the overall performance as it is announced as a triathlete’s dream. Track mileage and dodge really well enough (rather than increasing MapMyRide clock) and manual adjustment of routes in tracking my various sites, which are closely what I want. human resource management is good and the effect of all this together is so precious as to have a set of watches out there. But it will ultimately promote other athletes. Although I earned by working for a rating of 4 stars with my violin, I would not recommend a hardcore triathlete. Since my first training session to see my first Ironman, I can say that there are other watches that had the features I needed. Unfortunately, I have to use two or more, plus a bike computer. Even more unfortunate, in order to get what this watch, said he can do everything in a much more might be needed to keep this honest.

  3. Dayrems says:

I felt compelled to write a review because I am interested in what some critics to publish. This is the best guard of its kind that I owned, and if the buyer knows what he does, and limits, I think it will be more than satisfied. It may be that this watch does not meet your needs, but should not be reason to deliver a number of poor.
I had a Forerunner 305, 201, Polar and Timex GPS, I have years of experience. Since I do triathlons, I looked forward most controls waterproof, and 20 hours of battery life. The charger design is a bit ‘funky, but to me it seems to work very well. My battery is at least 16 hours – I have not tested further before recharging. One problem I had with the 305 also, however, the clock must be turned off during charging. Otherwise, once you disconnect the charger, Since the clock is on, begin to comply “(as usual when it is on. I was caught with a dead battery, shooting times in 305 for my obsession – I think the clocks should be programmed to automatically turn off when the charger is connected).
I used the new watch swimming, cycling and walking and running, and I am pleased with the performance of each sport. One critic noted that there should be a way “to swim – I agree, but I think Garmin may have avoided this because GPS does not work well in water. Several critics complained, however, Garmin does not write his site and in its manual that the GPS does not work well in water (do not know that I would blame that Garmin – probably the technology simply does not exist yet – in addition, GPS signals do not penetrate the water.) Indeed, getting an accurate GPS reading at open water swimming, but my map of the route correctly, but with a lot of zig-zag (I know I can ‘t swim in a straight line, but I are not so bad).
cycling part of the great works. The Garmin corresponds closely with the measured distance on my bike computer (I have no sensor Garmin – and want the quick release mount for my next birthday). Naturally also tracks speed, altitude, heart rate, etc. (I used the strap of my heart monitor 305).
Running also works well, basically the same as riding a bike, even if I as the screen displays a different way.
Other useful new features I noticed:
    1. The clock is stuck on board satellites faster than my 305
    2. The watch vibrates, though I wonder how this affects battery life. For example, vibrates every time (if set), so I know who have completed a lap car without looking at his watch.
    3. The software is more sophisticated (lots of small fixes. For example, the function setting lets me know how sports are – although I think this can be done much easier and less confusing. And the time zone can be made automatically, I always wondered why he could not do before – the clock knows where the love of God there are additional screens if they want custom – dogs statistical note.)
    4. wireless data uploads. Very nice! His new site “Garmin Connect is also very useful, and data can be uploaded directly to the Internet.
    5. The 310XT is not much smaller or lighter than 305 (according to specifications), but feels much smaller and lighter.
    6. There is a progress bar for the battery. I would be able to see how long I left the battery – I wish Garmin would add this. />
; In summary, I think this is by far the best GPS Garmin has shown, and is especially suitable for triathletes (despite the release of swimming). Yes, you must get used to the clock. Although I do not think it is difficult to use, you should read the manual. At least you do not have to keep re-reading the manual, like me, for some other gadgets. I think this watch is too expensive, but I am a gadget freak, and I’m sure the price will as over time, as did the 305 (which is far, Far, by the way, if you do not need a battery life of 20 hours and a waterproof timer:)

  4. Triguy says:

I used the 205, 305 and 405. looks like a triathlete, the 205 and 305 have been great. The best part of a watch for me is battery life. The middle 305-Ironmans limited because of limited battery life. Now I can take the 310XT for a total distance Ironman. I also enjoy wearing the watch in water now, but sliding the dress over it might be a little ‘difficult.
In short, the clock is almost identical to the 305 so if you’re training or competing in races 6 hours or less, I’d go with the 305 and save some money. Both the 305 and 310XT is the function for triathletes MultiSport is very important.

  5. I just got mine and I like it. It ‘came with software version 2. 5, but I upgraded to 2. 6 after much effort. For some reason, with version 2. 5, which has nothing to send the device, just download it. Is reduced to 4 hours of research and finally find the problem was due to the security settings of Internet Explorer. It seems to work well with v 2. 6. (If you have this problem, disable all security settings in IE and try to download the software again)

My only complaints are that it is a bit ‘difficult to keep a position . I wish there was a way that could not achieve or maintain a button or two, and then just one point. As it is now, I stop and scroll through the menu to save a reference point. My second complaint is that there is no way to import the points of interest through a computer. To save the points of interest such as feedstations mapmyride already in my classes, I have to hand in 310XT units. My complaint is the third ANT Stick. It would be easier to upload directly from USB, but I suppose I could find a way to make water resistant with a USB port. I’ll live with it, but do not want to pay [. . . ] For a new club if I end up losing.

As for people complaining that the GPS does not work while swimming – not a function of the Garmin unit, is a function of wavelength GPS I can not really penetrate the ‘water. I know from years of being in a submarine that can not use the GPS when it is submerged. Unless you stick an antenna on your head while you swim, just not going to work. Sorry, this is life. The product manual specifically the GPS and heart rate data is not available while swimming.
